We’re Josh and Ewan – a couple of locals who surf, fish, and spend as much time as we can down at Ōhope Beach. Like most people around here, we’ve had plenty of mornings where we’ve driven down, boards on the roof, only to find it completely flat… or messy as anything.

So we came up with an idea: a live camera that lets us see the Ōhope surf at West End in real time. What started as a small project between mates turned into something for the whole community – a way for locals, visitors, and even people watching from afar to stay connected to this incredible stretch of coastline. Because why not share a good thing?

By day, we’re both doing our bit for the community – Josh as a mortgage broker helping Kiwis across New Zealand (and right here in Ōhope) buy property and plan for their future, and Ewan running Four Square Ōhope Beach, keeping locals fuelled with everything from beach snacks to pantry essentials. When we’re not working, or parenting, you’ll usually find us in the water, watching the sets roll in.

Ōhope Live SurfCam gives a real-time view of the waves and water, helping you plan your surf, check the fishing conditions, or decide if it’s a good day to get the family down to the beach. It’s simple, free, and made for everyone who loves this place as much as we do.

We’ve made sure the SurfCam follows New Zealand’s public live-camera broadcasting guidelines – it only captures public beach areas, and no faces are filmed in a way that makes anyone recognisable.

This is our way of giving something back to the place we call home, helping everyone see the surf from wherever they are.
